Unit 4. Today Trends...!!

This is the first homework of Unit 4. It is about Family Trends. So, I'm going to post a little composition where I describe my family.

I have a traditional family. My mom and my dad are married since 1991. My dad is a doctor, he is a working father. My mom was an English teacher, but she is retired now, so she stays at home. They have two daughters, my little sister and me, and they raised us by them self and tried to make us the best persons that we could be :)

Well, this is my family. Please leave a comment and talk about your family. Is it traditional or modern??

Gaita...!!

This is an extra homework. We have to upload a "gaita" and post its lyrics.

This is one of my favorites "gaitas". It name is "El barrio de mis andanzas". It's performed by Ricardo Cepeda and it was composed by Elías Hernández. I like it because it talks about coming home again, about remember all the good things that we lived and the great people that we met. It's about return to our beginnings and never forget who we are and where we came from.

This are the lyrics, I hope you like it. Are really beautiful.

- estribillo -
El barrio de mis andanzas
Donde viví a plenitud
Donde transcurrió mi infancia
Mi niñez, mi juventud
Con inquietud
Y embriagado de añoranza
Regreso con la esperanza
De pasar mi sedentud

- verso I -

Well, this is my favorite "gaita", please leave a comment and talk about your favorite "gaita".

Chinita's Fair...!!

November is coming, so it’s time to celebrate our Zulianity and, of course, we can’t do it without our Patroness “Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá”.
Virgin of Chiquinquirá
The history says that a small piece of wood arrived to the shores of the Maracaibo’s Lake, where a woman took it to her home to use it like a lid of a jar. On November 18th, the woman heard a knock coming of the piece of wood. When she went to see, she noticed a bright light coming out of it and she could clearly see the image of the Virgin of Chiquinquirá.
She was really surprised, so she went out to the streets and started to scream: “Miracle, miracle”, and this was the beginning of the great devotion to the “Chinita”.
Chinita's Image
Chinita’s Fair is a religious tradition that we celebrate in Maracaibo every year from November 17th until November 19th. On November 17th, people in Maracaibo get together in the Basilica’s Square to stay awake singing “gaitas” and enjoying of the other cultural and commercial activities that zulians make, for example we have the Chinita's Parade, the marketplaces, the popular “Amaneceres Gaiteros”, the baseball game, the beauty contest...
Chinita's Fair
I think is a beautiful celebration because is a way to renew our faith and give thanks for everything that we have. To celebrate it, my family and I stay at home watching movies, making barbecues and spending time together and with our closest friends.
Well, this is a short review of Chinita's Fair, I hope you like it and please leave a comment.

Strangest thing you've ever eaten...!!

This is an extra homework. It's for Blog Action Day and it's about FOOD...!!

The topic that I chose is "Strangest thing you've ever eaten"

Once I went to a self service restaurant with my family and I chose something that looked like "Medallones de Carne". It looked fabulous, smelt delicious and tasted wonderful, it had a juicy salsa which combined perfectly with my steamed potatoes. I ate all my plate and I noticed that my dad smiled frequently. When the waiter brought the bill, my dad proudly asked me if I liked what I had eaten, I said "Yes, the meat was excelent". He smiled again and told me that it wasn't meat, it was "Lengua de Vaca" xP

I was shocked, but it really was delicious.

"Lengua de Vaca en Salsa"

Well, this is my little history about the strangest thing I've ever eaten. Please leave a comment about it or about the strangest thing you've ever eaten.

Restaurants...!!

Well, we still in Unit 2. In this activity, I will compare two restaurants and I'll use comparatives and superlatives. Also I will continue describing food and using adjectives to do it.

The restaurants that I chose are El Gaucho and Noi.

El Gaucho: It's a restaurant where you can eat food in an Argentinian style like "Parrillada Argentina", "Parrillada Gaucho", "Ensalada Milonga",... The food is all grill and delicious. The place is old, big, clean and elegant. The prices are expensive but the enviroment and good service are according to them. Is a save space which you can visit with your relatives and friends not only for lunch or dinner, but also to celebrate some event important in your life (Graduations, birthdays, communions,...). It is located in front of the "Plaza de la República".

El Gaucho

Noi: It's an Italian restaurant. It is more casual and informal than "El Gaucho". Also, it's smaller and newer. The food is delicious and appetizing. In the menu you will find every type of pastas, salads, "paninis" and pizzas. The place is clean, beautiful and bright. The prices are a little bit expensive, but they are cheaper compared with "El Gaucho" and like in this last, the service is good. Noi has an open terrace where you can have lunch or dinner while you enjoy the view of the city. It is located in the corner between 13 avenue and 71 street.

Noi
Well, those were the restaurants that I chose, I hope you visit them because they are both really good and leave me a comment about them...!!

My Favorite Food...!!

We continue with the second activity of Unit 2. This one is about "My Favorite Food".

My favorite food is "Pasta Carbonara". This is an Italian dish. It is delicious and appetizing. Also it's oily, spicy and fresh. It is a hot dish. It contains pasta (That could be long or short), white salsa (Usually made with cream), bacon, corn and spices to decorate. It eats with a fork and I usually have it for lunch or dinner.

Pasta Carbonara

Well, this is my favorite food, I hope you try it (Is really delicious ;)) and leave a comment telling me what do you think about it :)

Memories...!!

We continue with the first unit of level 5. This part is about "Memories".

Many of the most beautiful memories that I have are from high school. This one was a really funny and nice experience.

When I was in high school, I had to do a difficult work, this was my tesis. I did a long investigation about Cardiac Arrhythmias and my work was chosen for ASOVAC. During this presentation, I met many people: Teachers and students from other schools and cities, and we share our experiencies. After the exposition, we ate pizza in a small restaurant in downtown (Which doesn't even have a name xD), but we had a great time together.

My friend Dominic eating pizza :)

My friend Jean Luis :)

Well, this was one of the memories that I have from high school, I hope you like it and please live a comment and write about your high school memories...!!
